I am William Newman—photographer, technical project leader, founder of billynewmanphoto.com & wphoto.co, podcast producer & host, author of four photography books, community & scholarship organizer, outdoor travel & night sky enthusiast.

Photographer

My photographs are in campaigns for Travel Oregon, Airbnb, and Chevrolet. I shoot remote landscapes across the American West with field-tested techniques and natural light. I also shoot weddings, portraits, and brand campaigns. My portfolio is at billynewmanphoto.com/photographs.

Technical project lead

I lead digital content systems and web infrastructure for government agencies, legal practices, and technology companies. I build publishing systems that keep public information accurate and on time.

I redesigned 15+ government department websites for Marion County Health Services. I managed WordPress operations for 15Five at 40,000+ monthly visitors. I coordinated retail display deployments across 800+ locations for Outform with ASUS, Bose, Intel, and Samsung. I also run IT modernization for law practices.

I handle legacy site migrations, accessibility compliance, and operational documentation.

Author of four photography books

I’ve published four books on shooting film and digital outdoors. Landscape Portfolio captures wild terrain across the Western U.S. Black and White is about monochrome photography using traditional and digital methods. Working With Film covers analog processes in modern workflows. Western Overland Excursion is a photographic road trip through American landscapes. Podcast producer & host

I host three podcasts. The Billy Newman Photo Podcast covers behind-the-scenes stories from my fieldwork. Relax with Rain is ambient soundscapes for deep work and rest. The Night Sky Podcast covers astronomy, storytelling, and skywatching. Episodes include Winter Camping in the High Desert and Mars in Retrograde.

Backcountry travel & night sky

I’ve shot Western wilderness areas since 2011. Wallowa Mountains, Alvord Desert, Tetons, Yellowstone, Moab, Canyonlands, Yosemite, Grand Canyon. Early trips were 50-100 day road expeditions. Now I do shorter trips and daily morning shoots.

I track constellations across seasons, planet appearances, and Milky Way movement. I learn the sky through repetition, the way you learn a landscape. I use this to plan photography around moon phases and sky conditions.

Scholarship organizer

I founded the Kelly Christensen Memorial Scholarship for my English teacher at Hidden Valley High School. I work with the Redwood Education Foundation to select graduating seniors who lead and mentor, carrying that forward.
