I am William Newman—photographer, technical project leader, founder of billynewmanphoto.com & wphoto.co, podcast producer & host, author of four photography books, community & scholarship organizer, outdoor travel & night sky enthusiast.
My multimedia work for Intel, Samsung, Nike, and ASUS has reached global audiences through digital campaigns, retail displays, and branded content. I direct digital storytelling that merges cutting-edge technology with immersive outdoor narratives—producing visual campaigns that drive major product launches and international retail activations.
I’ve authored four photography books and created two media outlets that showcase my work—from podcast episodes to in-depth guides covering outdoor photography and backcountry travel. My work focuses on accessible wilderness areas across Western public lands, documenting on-the-ground field processes with traditional photography techniques.
I write regularly on billynewmanphoto.com/posts and host the Billy Newman Photo Podcast. I welcome emails at [email protected]. You can also find me on Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.
Photographer & Visual Storyteller
My photography appears in campaigns for Travel Oregon, Airbnb, and Chevrolet. I specialize in remote landscape photography that highlights overlooked environments and natural spaces. I also lead commercial photography projects—including marketing campaigns, wedding documentation, and digital content library creation for brands and outdoor publications.
My work combines field-tested workflows, natural light, and storytelling techniques from both analog and digital traditions—capturing the unique rhythms of wilderness environments. For more than a decade, I’ve created visual content for brands in the travel and outdoor industries.

Technical Project Leadership
I lead content and web infrastructure projects for brands like Nike, ASUS, Health & Human Services, and 15Five. I create systems that streamline large-scale publishing, media delivery, and content integration. I connect creative and technical teams to optimize frontend workflows and documentation systems across digital ecosystems.
I build AI-supported knowledge management systems using Google Vertex AI and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) frameworks. These systems help teams organize internal knowledge and connect distributed data sources. My implementations have powered marketing content projects at Bose and supported major product launches, including the ASUS ROG Ally rollout across Best Buy locations and Rare Beauty Times Square campaign launch.
This technical foundation directly enables my creative fieldwork—where robust digital asset management becomes essential for delivering high-quality visuals from remote environments. This includes production solutions for 360-degree media.

Outdoor Travel & Night Sky Exploration
I conduct week-long expeditions across remote American West locations—Oregon’s Steens Mountain to Owyhee Canyonlands—navigating without GPS, managing water sources, and handling equipment failures miles from assistance. Each expedition becomes a real-world test of equipment limits, from tent stakes that bend in volcanic soil to water pumps that clog in mineral-heavy streams. When photographers ask me about specific gear—how a tent handles wind or which filter works in alkaline springs—I can answer from actual use.
I’ve spent enough clear nights in the backcountry to know where Cassiopeia sits in January versus July, when Mars rises, and how the Milky Way shifts through the seasons. I know when the new moon creates the darkest skies, where the Milky Way’s core appears brightest, and which planets dominate each season’s sky. Originally developed during backcountry nights, this astronomical knowledge now directly informs when and where I plan photography expeditions based on optimal sky conditions.
Community & Scholarship
I founded the Kelly Christensen Memorial Scholarship to honor Kelly, an English and Student Government teacher at Hidden Valley High School. Since its inception, the scholarship has supported multiple graduating seniors who embody leadership, academic excellence, and the spirit of mentorship that Mr. Christensen brought to the classroom. I work with the Redwood Education Foundation to select awardees and continue Kelly’s legacy of inspiring future leaders.
Location & Contact
I’m based in Oregon and work across the Western U.S. on creative production, visual media, and content strategy.
